Celebrations at KDS Ross Sikh Temple, Vancouver

As part of the ongoing Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver is commemorating Veer Bal Diwas to honour the martyrdom of Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Zorawar Singh, the SahibZade of 10th Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Developed by the National eGovernance Division, the app helps record real-time data about the vital statistics of newborns, children up to the age of six, and adolescent girls, and is available in 22 languages.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said with the New Educational Policy, India is preparing an educational system that is futuristic, and added the new generation will get their education in a new system that will make for ideal citizens of the country. Addressing the 75th Amrut Mahotsav of Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan via video-conferencing, Modi said when other parts of the world were identified with their ruling dynasties, Indian identity was linked with its gurukuls, referring to the Indian tradition of treating knowledge as the highest pursuit of life. “Our Gurukuls have been representing equity, equality, care and a sense of service for centuries," he said.

Govt makes foodgrain free of cost for 81.35 crore people under NFSA for 1 year

New Delhi, Dec 23 In a pro-poor move, the government on Friday decided to provide free foodgrains to 81.35 crore people for one year under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) at an estimated cost of Rs 2 lakh crore. Currently, the beneficiaries covered under the NFSA pay Rs 1-3 per kg. Under the Act, foodgrain is allocated at 5 kg per person per month for priority households category and at 35 kg per family per month for Antodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) families at highly subsidised prices of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 3 per kg for coarse cereals, wheat and rice, respectively.

Launch of digital rupee a historic milestone, says RBI executive director

Digital currency would bring in a lot of operational efficiency in the system and will foster financial inclusion, said Ajay Kumar Choudhary, executive director, Reserve Bank of India, at an interactive session on “Digital Rupee: A Way Forward" organised by the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI). As per the central bank digital currency (CBDC) tracker, almost 105 countries representing 95% of the world GDP have taken steps to inculcate digital currency in their ecosystem, Choudhary said adding that around 50 countries are at the advanced phase of exploration to launch the digital currency, while 10 countries have fully launched the digital currency.

Customs duty advantage under the India-Australia free trade agreement will help Indian apparel exporters get greater market access in that country as compared to their competitors, AEPC said on Tuesday. The agreement is coming into force from December 29. OGTC President P. M. S. Uppal said most of the big Australian companies have deep roots in China and they will only be considering India as an option if "we give them lucrative incentives and reasons to shift to India for sourcing their requirements".

India, Cyprus sign three crucial agreements on defence, migration and solar alliance

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his contemporary Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides and signed three key agreements at a joint press conference held in Cyprus's Nicosia on Thursday.In Jaishankar's first official visit to Cyprus, the two ministers held productive discussions on bilateral relations, multilateral cooperation, geopolitical and regional challenges, on the Indo-Pacific issue, the Middle East, Europe and India's relation with the European Union. "We have signed three important agreements today. One is the Memorandum of Understanding on defence and military cooperation between our two countries. The second is the letter of intent on Migration and Mobility Partnership, which we believe will provide a common framework of arrangement and cooperation to facilitate the mobility of students, academics, business people and professionals and it will also help in combating irregular migration. We also signed the framework agreement on International Solar Alliance by Cyprus," said Jaishankar.

India emerged as one of the leading investment destinations for billionaires across the world, as per the UBS Billionaire Ambitions Report 2022. The report is based on surveys, questions and information from the UBS Evidence Lab on over 2,500 billionaires across 75 markets. Among the sectors, the billionaires favour energy, possibly due to today's supply constraints and the accelerating secular transition to renewables. In the report, 58 per cent of the billionaire respondents chose India and Southeast Asia as their chosen markets for investment.
